IELTS Writing Task 2: develop a clear argument

اپنا مؤقف، وجہ اور مثال واضح کریں

An essay needs a direct response to the task, connected paragraphs and ideas that are explained rather than merely listed. Before writing, identify exactly what the question asks you to discuss, evaluate or decide.

Original introductory practice, not an official IELTS test or band assessment. Independent exam-specialist review is pending.

Plan the response to this question

Underline the task words and decide your position. A two-minute plan can identify the main point of each body paragraph and prevent a second paragraph from repeating the first.

Develop one point at a time

A paragraph can introduce a point, explain why it matters and illustrate it with a relevant example. You do not need invented statistics. A clear everyday example can support your reasoning without pretending to be research.

Edit for clarity

Read each paragraph as a reader who has not seen your plan. Check whether the connection is explicit, whether any claim is too broad and whether the conclusion reflects the argument you actually wrote. More complex vocabulary is not automatically more precise.

One focused practice task

Original practice task: Some people believe community libraries should spend more money on printed books. Others think digital learning services should receive more funding. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

A possible plan: explain the access and reading advantages of printed books; explain the reach and flexibility of digital services; then justify a balanced priority based on the community’s needs. Other well-supported positions can also work. No automated band score is provided.
